I use the beautiful Japanese art of Kintsugi here as a gesture, not a resolution. The cracks in the coasters and tiles running through the flag motif are not healed. They are held together, visibly, imperfectly, with gold that draws attention rather than concealing the damage.

Coasters and tiles are small objects for everyday use, a coaster meant for a coffee cup or a glass of water, carrying within it the endurance of ongoing violence and the persistent, perhaps stubborn act of choosing repair anyway.
