My scroll series exhibit influences from my experiences traveling and exhibiting in both   China (PRC) and Japan.  For years I have been working on themes inspired by water and transformation, and I felt a kinship with the respect for Nature that is inherent in the  art and culture of Japan and China. Traditional painting format in both cultures is done on scrolls which are portable, and often vertical.  For a two person exhibition in Tokyo, I created a series of contemporary scroll paintings done on unstretched linen with oil and acrylic inspired by the portable format of traditional scrolls, this made it feasible to ship large paintings to Japan.
